Ingredients for Kerala Kaalan Recipe
Raw plantain (Banana : Nendra kaya) - 1 no
Yam/Chena(chopped) - 1 cup
Curd - 2 cups
Coconut - 1/2 of one
Pepper - 5 nos
Green chilly - 1 no
Red chillies - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1/4 tsp
Salt - As reqd
Curry leaves - 1 sprig

For seasoning:-
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Fenugreek seeds(Uluva) - 10 nos
Dry red chillies - 2 nos(chopped)
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Oil - 2 tsp


Preparation Method of Kerala Kaalan Recipe
1)Peel and cube the banana and yam.
2)Cook the banana and yam pieces along with turmeric powder, chilly powder, salt, curry leaves and 1 cup of water.
3)Grind together coconut, pepper, cumin seeds and green chilly to a fine paste.
4)Add this paste to the cooked vegetables.
5)Boil them 
6)Add salt.
7)Finally add curd to this and simmer for 2 - 3 minutes, Do not boil.
8)Splutter mustard seeds, red chilly, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves in a pan.
9)Add this to the gravy.
10) The simple and tasty Kaalan is ready to be served.
