Toor dal ( or Moong Dal ) Curry ( Kerala Parippu Curry )

  • Toor dal (or Moong Dal) – 1 Cup
  • Water – 3 Cups
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Slit Green Chillies – 2 to 4
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Small onions/Shallots/Kunjulli – 4 or 5 (Diced )
  • Dry Red Chillies – 4
  • Curry Leaves – A sprig
  • Salt – to taste

Preparation Method

  1. Pressure cook the dal in 3 cups of water along with salt, green chillies and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder  for 2 whistles, when the dal is well cooked, Open the pressure cooker and mash the dal
    thoroughly with a spatula. Boil for a few more minutes if there is excess water.
  2. Heat Ghee in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Saute the diced shallots, red chillies and curry leaves.
  3. Pour the seasoning over the cooked dal and mix well.
  4. The Toor dal (or Moong Dal) Curry (Kerala Parippu Curry)  is ready, Serve with Rice.
